We Stand with Girls to tear down barriers, save lives and create a world where equality for girls leads to progress for all.
Find out how we’re creating lasting change.
We help local education authorities and communities ensure that children and young people have access to quality and inclusive education. We provide early education and help students catch up if they have been forced out of school. We’re experts in providing education in emergencies.
We support programmes that keep children, especially girls, safe by helping prevent practices such as early and forced marriage, female genital mutilation, child trafficking and sexual exploitation. Our child protection work is about preventing and responding to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of violence against children.
In emergencies, we provide food and cash vouchers and create safe spaces for children. We deliver education programs, nutritional training and clean water and sanitation. We offer health support, such as providing period products and provide services that help protect girls most at risk of abuse like child marriage, sex trafficking and violence. We’re experts in preparing communities to withstand shocks and support recovery so that boys, girls, and their communities can survive, rebuild, and look forward to a safer, more secure future.
Plan Ireland works to ensure that children, adolescents, and youth — in all their diversity — have the knowledge, confidence, and supportive environment needed to make informed decisions about their bodies, relationships, and futures. This means creating opportunities to challenge harmful gender norms, tackle stigma and discrimination, and open up access to essential SRHR information and services.
At Plan International Ireland, building resilience to climate change requires action on many fronts — from the classroom to the community, from rural farms to coastal waters. Our climate adaptation work equips children, young people, and communities with the skills, resources, and opportunities they need to adapt, thrive, and lead.
We work to ensure that every child involved in our sponsorship program is protected from harm, with strict safeguards in place for all interactions. As a valued supporter, you play a vital role in creating a positive and safe experience. To maintain this:
Every 2 seconds, a girl under 18 is married. Child marriage is a human rights violation and increases a girls risk of domestic abuse, early pregnancy and HIV.
130 million girls around the world are not attending primary or secondary school.
4.1 million girls are at risk of being subjected to female genital mutilation.
1 in 4 women and girls worldwide don’t have what they need to manage their periods.
Why is equality important? And why it starts with girls
Our child sponsorship programme benefits whole communities and is one of the most important ways we improve children’s lives.
